Effective Hearings
A fair hearing is a right of all parties and a foundation of administrative justice. Learners will look at the principles of a fair hearing, review the guidelines for admitting evidence, and learn to recognize issues that arise in hearings. Learners will apply this learning in a mock hearing to become more confident in conducting hearings in a tribunal context.

​Prerequisite: To attend this course you must have taken the Principles of Administrative Justice course.
The goal of Effective Hearings is to develop an understanding of the hearing process in order to participate and lead more effectively and serve the parties better.
Course Purposes
This course intends to:

apply fair procedure and principles of evidence to all aspects of prosecutorial, adversarial, or inquisitorial hearings.

promote best practices for fair and effective hearings.

strengthen your skills in leading and participating in fair and effective hearings.

show how best to address problems that may arise in hearings.

Course Learning Outcomes
After this course, learners will be able to:

plan for and run a hearing that is fair and effective.

know and carry out the roles of a sole adjudicator, chair, or decision-making member in an administrative tribunal hearing.

confidently respond to procedures and evidentiary issues.
