Respectful Administrative Justice
Respectful Administrative Justice is a 7-hour course that invites open and respectful discussion. You will learn about unconscious bias, micro-aggressions, mindfulness, cultural competence, and cultural humility.

The course explains why tribunal members must build cultural awareness to do their work fairly. You will gain skills and strategies to support respectful hearings, fair decision-making, and clear writing. We will look at how cultural differences can affect communication, assessing evidence, and running proceedings.
The training reflects Canada. Learners may consider differences in race, culture, religion, language, gender, sexual orientation, and ability. Some differences are visible, others are not.
We will also connect this work to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 2015 calls to action, which encourage cultural training, especially about Indigenous peoples.
Course Purposes
This course intends to:

explore concepts of implicit bias, micro-aggressions, mindfulness, cultural competence, and cultural humility.

recognize how implicit bias affects administrative justice decision-making, advocacy, administration, and investigation.

develop skills and strategies for interrupting implicit biases from affecting administrative justice decision-making, administration, advocacy, and investigation
Course Learning Outcomes
After this course, you will be able to:

develop confidence in understanding the concept of cultural humility and their ability to create more inclusive and respectful interactions and environments.

develop comfort with language used by respectful administrative justice practitioners.
